Last night’s HSJ Partnership Awards honoured the organisations that were judged to have forged the most outstanding collaborations with the NHS during one of its most challenging years.

Around 900 guests converged on Evolution in London, where comedian Joel Dommett announced the winners in an event that recognises and celebrates at a national level the crucial contributions of the private and third sector.

This year there were 141 projects, 21 of them winners and 18 highly commended. The task of deciding the best of the best was left to 90 judges, who reached their decisions over a two-stage process.

Categories this year included environmental sustainability, elective care recovery, addressing health inequalities, primary care, procurement, not for profit, mental health, pharmaceutical, cancer outcomes, clinical safety and staffing solutions.

In his welcome speech, HSJ editor Alastair McLellan said that since the previous awards, the way the NHS buys had gone through the biggest change in a decade.

“Integrated care boards have replaced clinical commissioning groups as the purchasers of care; while the procurement of goods and non-clinical services has undergone not one but three ‘new dawns’ in as many years.

“Through all this, suppliers and their NHS partners needed to find a way to do business that worked, despite all this disruption. Tonight’s finalists are those who succeeded in that goal – and then went further.”

MediCinema was the charity partner, with trustee Helga Charters giving a speech.
